“COMMIT THY WAY UNTO THE LORD; TRUST ALSO IN HIM; AND HE SHALL BRING IT TO PASS”~ PSALMS 37:5
If God has given you a vision, trust me, it will be tested and the enemy will do all he can to kill it. He will use discouragement, being misunderstood, loneliness, not fitting in, being overwhelmed to get you to quit. Many times it will look easier to quit, but DON’T. The lord will bring it to pass AT HIS TIME.
Joseph was misunderstood, hated, and envied by his jealous brothers. They scorned and insulted him and hated him because of his dreams. His brothers plotted to kill him, they thought they had finished him off when they threw him into that pit, but it did not work because his dream was a GOD THING. Through the years, I’m sure they forgot about Joseph and the thought they had had the victory (for years), BUT in those years God was Refining and Training and Perfecting Joseph. God ALONE was Joseph’s teacher and friend. And when it was Time nobody could stand in the way. Though Joseph was forgotten by his family by the Butler in Prison, God had not forgotten him.
Joseph faced it all: Rejection, False accusations of the worst kind: he was accused, tried and convicted of rape, though he was innocent and suffered for something he did not do. Joseph lost his reputation, but he still had his call and Gods favor and nothing anyone did could stop him. At the time of favor, God REMEMBERED him and brought his purposes in his life to pass. Have you been forgotten, misunderstood, hated, and envied for your visions sake? Then you are on the right track!
Joseph learnt to be patient. It was many, many years before the dream he had seen as a teenager of 17 years came to pass, but he never gave up. How Joseph suffered because of his Godly dreams. His own brothers, his flesh and blood hated and reviled him and plotted against him. It angered them that Joseph should have such big dreams. They must have thought “WHY HIM”, “WHAT’S SO SPECIAL ABOUT HIM”. But God will choose whom he will choose, he will choose those that nobody suspects or thinks worthy, that he may be glorified.
When his brothers plotted to kill him, this is what they said amongst themselves “HERE COMES THAT DREAMER! COME NOW, LET US KILL HIM AND THROW HIM INTO ONE OF THE PITS. THEN WE WILL SAY THAT A FIERCE ANIMAL HAS DEVOURED HIM, AND WE WILL SEE WHAT WILL BECOME OF HIS DREAMS.”(GEN 37:19, 20). They then at Reuben’s and Judah’s intervention decided against killing him and instead they stripped him of his beautiful coat of many colors and threw him into the pit and then sold him to the Ishmaelites into slavery.
His brothers stripped him of the coat of many colors which has earned their jealousy. The lords favor was with Joseph and his father Jacob loved him more than his others children and gave him this coat. By stripping him of this coat and taking it to their father dipped in the blood of coats, the brothers must have really have scorned and laughed at Joseph in their hearts for they thought they had stripped him of everything that made them jealous, but the lords favor was upon Joseph even in Egypt.
Yes, Joseph learnt patience, he learnt how evil people can be, but in Egypt too he would learn not to depend on man or put his trust in man. He was constantly betrayed. In Potiphar’s house where he served faithfully, he was accused of rape and Potiphar believed the lies and threw Joseph into prison despite his years of service to him. In prison, the Lord continued to Favor and bless the work of Josephs hands, but once again Joseph was betrayed. He helped Pharaohs Butler interpret his dream and asked him to remember him when he got out so that Joseph would leave prison, but the Butler did not remember Joseph but forgot him (GEN 40:23)
One of the Key things that God will teach a person of vision is never to put their trust in man, or depend on the favor of man. The dependence of man will take our eyes off of God and the power of his might; it will give man too much credit, too much importance. Where man takes you, man has to sustain you with his limitations, where man places you, man has to keep you. But where the lord places you, the lord favors and blesses you. Joseph had to learn this, that in the end he may know that surely the lord had done it for him, not man.
Later God would orchestrate events in Joseph’s life that would cause him to stand before pharaoh and gain the favor of pharaoh and have Pharaoh himself and be set by pharaoh over the land of Egypt. Joseph was 30 when he entered into this position. His destiny. 13 years after he received his dreams, 13 years after his brother’s betrayal, 13 years of pain and darkness, but God showed up and he did so quickly and no one could stop it.
Later Joseph’s brothers would come to Joseph in desperation for help and after Joseph revealed himself to them he would say this to them with no bitterness: “As for you, YOU MEANT EVIL AGAINST ME, BUT GOD MEANT IT FOR GOOD, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today…(GEN 50:20)
Yes, Joseph’s life proves the words of ROMANS 8:28: “AND WE KNOW THAT ALL THINGS WORK TOGETHER FOR GOOD TO THEM THAT LOVE GOD, TO THEM WHO ARE THE CALLED ACCORDING TO HIS PURPOSE”. Yes, God is working everything out for your good if you love him. Hid purposes for your life will not be aborted if you keep your eyes fixed on him like Joseph did. Joseph feared the lord and gave him his rightful place in his life through it all. He refused to sin against him even when it cost him jail time, rejection and betrayal. God was faithful to Joseph even when it might have appeared to the natural eyes that God had forsaken him.
Through the 13 years, His brothers thought Joseph was a fraud, they thought they had the victory and must have thought his dreams a fraud, but God was working. Along the road to your destiny, there will comes times when it looks like your dream has died, in the natural everything will look dead, people will scorn and laugh at your dreams as they look at the natural, but God is working. If we let him do his thing in our lives, in the end we will rejoice.
GOD SEES THE BEGINNING FROM THE END. He already has the end worked out. He sees the whole picture. We see as in a mirror, partly, but he sees the WHOLE. He knows exactly what you need to walk through to be who he has called you to be. Many times it will be out rightly painful and you will question if you are in Gods will. Joseph must have wondered why all that awful stuff was happening to him, but he kept walking with God through it all.
ISAIAH 55:8 says “FOR MY THOUGHTS ARE NOT YOUR THOUGHTS, NOR ARE YOUR WAYS MY WAYS”. God’s thoughts and ways are far higher than we can comprehend, but it’s always meant to bring his desired end.
Do your dreams seem dead, impossible, too BIG for your shoes, do people tell you that God cannot use you because of your past, because of your personality, because of your weaknesses, because of how you look. Do you look like the least likely candidate in men’s books? Then rejoice for that shows that your dream is a God dream. “FOR MEN IT MAY BE IMPOSSIBLE, BUT WITH GOD ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE” (MATTHEW 19:26).
Have people betrayed you, did the very same people you shared your dream with in excitement, turn around to discourage and scorn you? Have the people you thought could help you fulfill your call abused and despised and forgotten you? Have you been patronizingly called a DREAMER? Have they laughed at your seemingly “impossible dreams”? Have they said God cannot use somebody like you? Then rejoice! You’re right on target. They said the same things to Joseph, to Jesus and they were wrong! When God is finished he will get the glory out of your life!
God delights in bringing forth his glory! And that’s why he calls the weak and equips them. That’s why he calls the young, the nobodies, that he may shows forth his glory. He called David and Joseph and teenagers, he called Moses as a stammer, he called Jeremiah as a prophets as a young man, He called Gideon from a lowly , unknown family background, Jesus our savior was born in a manger, his father was a carpenter and came from Nazareth. His family was not influential or noble. What excuse are you holding onto as to why your dreams cannot be brought to pass? Is anything too difficult for our God?
If you need any further encouragement, look at these words from 1 CORINTHIANS 1:26-29 “For consider your calling, brothers: Not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. BUT GOD CHOSE WHAT IS FOOLISH IN THE WORLD TO SHAME THE WISE; GOD CHOSE WHAT IS WEAK IN THE WORLD TO SHAME THE STRONG; GOD CHOSE WHAT IS LOW AND DESPISED IN THE WORLD, EVEN THINGS THAT ARE NOT, TO BRING TO NOTHING THINGS THAT ARE, SO THAT NO HUMAN BEING MIGHT BOAST IN THE PRESENCE OF GOD.”
In Christ,

Thank you soooo much for this confirming and powerful word. I am in the midst of something that has been a struggle for over a little over a year.
Just when it felt like things were finally working out, the enemy sent another blow and is making me wonder if I’m even in the will of God. I’ve cried myself out. I hope you don’t mind but this post blessed me so much that I posted it on my MySpace page. If you want me to remove it I will, but I hope not.
I think it will speak to others as well. Pls keep doing what you do. I’m a writer as well and GOD is using our gifts to bless the Body of Christ.

Dear sister in Christ,
I am a believer teaching in a First Nations community (North Canadian Indian community)
I have been very bewildered at the abusive/bullying treatment I’ve received over the years from women, sisters in Christ no exception. After reading your post, Living by grace – Set Free and Set Apart by God, I realize this is cause for me to rejoice. (after years of analyzing myself to death trying to find out what sin is in me that causes this) I’ve decided to accept the word given to me on 3 different occasions (two in opposite sides of the country) and one (overseas in another country) that I will be used by God to minister to abused women. Ministering to abused women is the last thing on my list of “desires of my heart”, ha ha, but I accept this now and I believe that out of my great suffering of being misunderstood, judged, overlooked, waved off, and mistreated, God will cause my heart to explode with love and compassion for all women.
I choose life now. I choose to forgive. I choose to believe. I choose to wait upon the Lord Who does all things well. Much love in Christ, (a sister from Northern Canada)
The Lord knows and understands why my sister. our sufferings are for a reason and the Lord works all things for good. yield to him and he shall direct your ways to what he desires of you. suffering is Gods way of perfecting us and helping us be betetr and more compassionate servants to otehrs and him. be blessed
i just came across this today…thank you so much for posting it!
god bless you!
amen! be encouraged and put him first in everything!
